🆕Safetica Client versions: Decide when a new version is accepted for your devices
Learn how to accept or snooze a newly released Safetica Client version and how the accepted version changes the Outdated status.
Introduction: Why accept a Safetica Client version?
When Safetica releases a new Safetica Client version, it doesn't become the target for your devices right away. A banner in the Devices section offers it to you, and you accept it now or snooze the decision. The version you accept becomes the accepted version (i.e., the version your devices are measured against), so you can keep a tested version on your devices while Safetica keeps releasing, without devices being flagged as Outdated.
Accepting a version doesn't install anything. It only marks that version as the one your devices should be running, so any device on an older version is then flagged as outdated. You update Safetica Client on your devices yourself, when you are ready. Learn how to update Safetica Client here.
How it works
- A new Safetica Client version becomes available:
- ✨Safetica Platform: Safetica releases a new Safetica Client version for Windows, macOS, or both.
- 💻Safetica On-Prem: Safetica Client becomes available after you update your Safetica On-Prem server. Learn how to update Safetica server here.
- The banner in Devices shows the new version with a link to what's new.
- You accept the version or snooze the decision for one day.
- Once you accept, devices running an older version are marked Outdated, and updates and downloads start serving the version you accepted.
- You update your devices yourself from the Actions dropdown (Actions > Update). Learn more here.
Permissions
- Accepting or snoozing a version and changing the release channel is available to Safetica admins with the Device management permission.
- Admins with only the Device view permission see the banner but not its buttons.
How to accept a new Safetica Client version
Accept a version when you are ready to roll it out to your devices.
Accepting cannot be undone. You cannot revert an accepted version in the Safetica console. Once you accept, devices running an older version show as Outdated until you update them.
- Go to Devices.
- In the banner, click See what's new to review the Safetica Client release notes.
- Click Accept version.
In Safetica Platform, Windows and macOS versions of the offered Safetica Client may differ (they are always the same in Safetica On-Prem).
4. If new versions are offered for both Windows and macOS, select All systems, Windows only, or macOS only. The version number is shown next to each option.
After you accept:
- The version becomes the target for the selected operating systems, and the banner disappears. If you accepted only one operating system while a version is still offered for the other, the banner stays for that one.
- Devices running an older version immediately show Outdated in Protection details. If a device stays Outdated for more than 7 days, its Protection status changes to Degraded.
- Updates on devices: Actions > Update installs the accepted version.
- Installer download: Download Safetica Client now serves the accepted version, so new devices start on the same version as the rest.
Example: Rolling out a new version to a pilot group first.
Safetica releases Safetica Client 11.44.2 for Windows while your Windows devices run 11.43.5. You accept the version, select ten pilot devices in Devices, and click Actions > Update. The pilot devices update to 11.44.2 and are up to date. The remaining Windows devices show Outdated. If you don't update them within 7 days, their Protection status changes to Degraded.
How to snooze a new Safetica Client version
Snooze the decision when you are not ready to evaluate the new version yet.
- Go to Devices.
- In the banner, click Snooze for 1 day.
After you snooze:
- The banner disappears for one day, then returns so you can accept or snooze again.
- The accepted version doesn't change, so no device becomes Outdated because of the new release, and updates and downloads keep serving the earlier accepted version.
A snooze applies only to that version. If Safetica releases an even newer version during the snooze, the banner returns immediately with the newer version. The snoozed version is not offered again.
Accept and Snooze are company-wide actions. If one admin snoozes acceptance, the banner disappears for all other admins until the next day.
How to update devices to the accepted version
Accepting a version sets the target, but it doesn't install anything. You must update your devices from the Devices section yourself.
- Go to Devices and select the devices you want to update.
- Click Actions > Update.
Safetica Client on the selected devices updates to the accepted version. Only devices in the Outdated state will be updated.
FAQ
Q: Does accepting a version install it on my devices?
A: No. Accepting doesn't install anything. It only sets which version your devices are measured against. Devices running an older version show as Outdated until you update them with Actions > Update. Devices you don't update keep working on their current version.
Q: Can I undo accepting a version?
A: No. Once you accept a version, the banner disappears and the console offers no way to return to the previous accepted version. If you want to keep some devices on the older version, simply don't update them. They keep working, but show as Outdated.
Q: What happens if I neither accept nor snooze the new version?
A: Nothing changes. The banner stays in Devices and updates and downloads keep serving the version you already accepted earlier.
Q: A device runs a newer Safetica Client than the accepted version. Is it Outdated?
A: No. Devices running the accepted version or newer are considered up to date. This typically happens when a device was updated manually, or ran a feature release before you switched back to regular releases.
