Linux support in Safetica

Introduction

Safetica does not provide protection on Linux devices – there is no Safetica Client for Linux.

However, you can still use Linux servers as storage. When users copy files from a Linux server to their Windows or macOS devices with Safetica Client, Safetica can still help protect sensitive data by auditing, classifying, and enforcing policies on those devices.

What is not supported: Linux devices

Safetica does not support devices with Linux operating system, because there is no Safetica Client for Linux:

  • Safetica cannot audit file or user activities that happen directly on Linux devices.
  • Safetica cannot classify data or enforce policies on Linux devices.

What is supported: Linux file servers used for data storage

You can use a Linux server as a file server or storage location and still benefit from Safetica, as long as users copy the files to devices with Safetica Client.

In this scenario:

  • The Linux server stores shared data (for example, shared folders and files).
  • Users connect to the Linux server from devices with Safetica Client.
  • When a user copies files from the Linux server to their Windows or macOS protected device and then works with the files, Safetica can:
    • Audit file operations and user activities on that device with Safetica Client.
    • Classify the files based on your data classifications.
    • Apply relevant policies on the device with Safetica Client.

Example: If your data classification is set to classify files based on the network path of the Linux file server, the Safetica Client will be able to apply it and protect the data accordingly.

❗Since there is no Safetica Client for Linux, operations (such as modifying files) performed directly on the Linux server are not audited or protected by Safetica.
