Outlook protection: Known issues
Although uncommon, you may encounter one of the following issues:
Issue with Chrome v142 and Edge v143
Chromium introduced a new security feature called Local network access restrictions. In Chrome v142 and Edge v143, this prevents the Outlook add-in from communicating with the Safetica Client running on the computer.
This issue happens because Microsoft’s Office add-in framework (OWA) is not yet compatible with this browser change. As a result, the add-in behaves as if the Safetica Client is not installed.
Who is affected:
- Users who use Outlook on the web (OWA) in:
- Chrome v142
- Edge v143
Impact:
- Reduced protection: The add-in cannot connect to the Safetica Client and starts providing only limited protection (e.g., no content analysis for attachments).
Solution:
Option 1: Avoid OWA in affected browsers
Use on of the following:
- Desktop Outlook or
- Classic Outlook or
- OWA in a different browser or version (not Chrome v142 / Edge v143).
Option 2: Temporarily disable the Chromium feature
If users must use OWA in Chrome v142 / Edge v143, you can temporarily opt out of the Local network access restrictions via enterprise policy:
- Chrome policy: LocalNetworkAccessRestrictionsTemporaryOptOut
https://chromeenterprise.google/policies/#LocalNetworkAccessRestrictionsTemporaryOptOut - Edge policy: LocalNetworkAccessRestrictionsTemporaryOptOut
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/microsoft-edge-browser-policies/localnetworkaccessrest…
Option 3: Disable Chromium feature manually
Individual users can disable the restriction in Chrome flags:
- chrome://flags/#local-network-access-check
Outlook add-in is unavailable
Appears relatively rarely and is probably connected to:
- using the add-in for the first time in a browser
- using the add-in for the first time after a browser update
Solution: Click Send anyway.
The email will only be recorded if you have Exchange protection activated.
For emails that should be blocked there is no Send anyway button
Outlook add-in finished processing
May rarely appear when processing takes longer than 5 seconds. Usually connected to sending larger attachments or temporary issue in the network.
The email may not be recorded.
For emails that should be blocked, there is no Send button.
Outlook add-in processes the message longer than expected
Rarely, the add-in may stop responding when sending an email. You will see the notification: “Email protection for Safetica is processing message” which may remain displayed for several minutes.
Solution:
- Click the Don’t send button and try sending the email again.
- You can also click Send anyway (if available).
- Check your internet connection, as poor connectivity may contribute to this issue.
- If the above points do not solve the issue, try waiting until the the message changes to timeout and click Send anyway.
