When managing multiple external devices, it’s helpful to assign them descriptive names (for example, John’s USB drive or Finance backup disk). This makes it easier to recognize specific external devices in the External devices and Data destinations sections.
How to rename an external device
- Go to External devices.
- Click the external device you want to rename to open its detail.
- Click the Edit (pen) icon next to the device name.
- Type the new name and press Enter to confirm.
- The new name will instantly appear in all relevant places across the console, such as the External devices table or the Data destinations section.
How to revert to the original name
If you ever need to restore the original name of an external device:
- Open the device detail in External devices.
- Find the Original name row.
- Use the name shown there to rename the device back to its original name.
