From December 2024, Safetica components utilize Microsoft .NET 8 libraries. This impacts Safetica’s compatibility with older operating systems, such as Windows 7 and Window 8.1.
Introduction
At Safetica, we consider security a priority and strive to stay up-to-date with the latest technologies, including Microsoft .NET.
In December 2024, we are updating Safetica components with the latest Microsoft .NET 8 libraries. This update impacts Safetica’s compatibility with certain older operating systems.
What is changing?
- Safetica updates its components to .NET 8 libraries: Safetica previously used .NET 6, which reached its end of support on November 12, 2024. Upgrading to .NET 8 ensures Safetica can quickly address any future .NET security issues or vulnerabilities by applying the latest hotfixes or patches.
- Safetica's compatibility changes: The latest .NET 8 libraries, and by extension Safetica version 10.5.90 or newer, no longer support the following operating systems:
These operating systems no longer receive security fixes from Microsoft or Apple, and we strongly recommend our customers to update to newer versions.
As of December 2024, these outdated operating systems only appear on around 1% of our customers’ environments and, in the vast majority of cases, only run on a selected few machines.
What is the impact of the .NET8 update?
- Safetica Clients:
- Safetica Clients running on unsupported operating systems will not automatically update to version 10.5.90 or newer.
- If the update of Safetica Client is forced, it may function temporarily even on an unsupported operating system, but this is not guaranteed to be sustainable.
- Safetica Servers:
- Safetica Servers running on Windows Server 2012 R2 or older will not be able to update to the Safetica Server version 10.5.90 or newer.
