Data classification in Safetica

Data classification is the first step in data protection. It allows you to gain visibility into your company and understand its sensitive data (e.g. personal information, credit card numbers, outputs of certain applications, etc.).

Safetica unified classification combines content analysis with context awareness to detect sensitive data as accurately as possible. It allows you to detect sensitive files based on sensitive content, origin, file type, and even pre-existing 3rd party data classifications.

Safetica unified classification classifies:

  • Data in use: for example opening and editing files in various applications.
  • Data in motion: for example when a user moves a file, uploads it somewhere, sends it via email, etc.
  • Data at rest: Safetica searches for sensitive files stored on your devices that have not been accessed or used for some time.

This way, Safetica can see anything the user interacts with and analyze whether the files are sensitive.

How is it reflected in the product?

Safetica includes predefined data classifications out-of-the-box (focused, for example, on personal or financial data), so it immediately detects and records file operations performed with files that match them. Data classifications can be customized and fully tailored to any company's needs.

The rules you can set up in a data classification are very flexible. You can combine very granular elements, set up thresholds for the number of occurrences, or use OCR.
