Features of Safetica for macOS

Learn what Safetica features are available for macOS

Compared to Safetica for Windows, the macOS feature set differs slightly in the following areas:

AUDITING features

File operations

Safetica audits the same operations for macOS as for Windows, with a few differences:

  • Open, Create - we do not record open and create operations.
  • Move - we do not record move operations performed within one physical drive (including folders synced to the cloud). We do, however, record copy operations performed within one drive.
  • Web upload - for Firefox and Opera browsers, we only record web downloads, not web uploads. For Safari and Chrome, we record both these operations.
  • Print – we only record printing for mapped printers (both physical and virtual).
  • Virtual printing – printing into files (such as virtual printing into .pdf) is not recorded.

Destination types

Safetica audits the same destination types for macOS as for Windows, with a few exceptions that are not audited:

  • FTP
  • RDP
  • git
  • virtual printer
  • external CD/DVD

Audit of website visits

Website visits are audited only for Safari and Chrome browsers.

Supported email clients

Incoming and outgoing email communication via email clients is audited only for Apple Mail app.

Supported instant messengers

Safetica supports these instant messengers on macOS: Messages, Microsoft Teams, Slack, WhatsApp, Microsoft Skype, Telegram, Viber, Facebook Messenger

PROTECTION features

Policies

Policies for external devices only audit and protect USB storage devices on macOS.

Website policies only work for Safari and Chrome browsers.

Data policies are supported, with a few differences from Windows:

  • The policy action Block (with override) is not supported on macOS. All the other policy actions (i.e. Allow, Log, Notify, Block) are supported.
  • The same destination types can be protected as on Windows, with a few exceptions:
    • Remote file transfer, Git, and Virtual print – are not supported.
  • The options Block copy to clipboard and Block screen capture are not supported.

Auditing policies have these differences compared to Windows.

Data classification

All Data classification features are supported on macOS as on Windows, with one exception:

  • The App category element is not supported for macOS yet.

All the other features and sections work the same for macOS and Windows.
